Transparency

TRANSPARENCY BUILDS TRUST.

We believe environmental action should be understandable, traceable and communicated responsibly. Here we explain how MBRC works, how projects are supported and how impact, materials and partnerships are documented.

Organization & responsibilities

HOW MBRC IS STRUCTURED.

MBRC combines charitable environmental action with commercial products, materials and partnerships. Clear responsibilities matter — especially when support mechanisms, material claims and project outcomes are communicated publicly.

01

MBRC THE OCEAN gGmbH

Charitable mission, cleanup-related activities, education, community engagement and eligible nonprofit projects.

Charitable activities
02

MBRC THE OCEAN GmbH

Products, materials, commercial partnerships, brand collaborations and other business activities.

Commercial activities
03

Partners & local operators

Collectors, recyclers, project partners, local organizations and specialist providers depending on the respective program.

Program-specific roles

Specific responsibilities may vary by program, contractual setup and local implementation. The applicable structure should therefore be assessed in the context of the respective project or partnership.

From commitment to action

HOW SUPPORT BECOMES ACTION.

There is no single mechanism behind every MBRC partnership. Support can be structured in different ways depending on the product, campaign, commitment and agreed program.

01

Fixed commitments

A defined contribution or level of support is agreed for a specified period, project or scope.

02

Product-based mechanisms

Support is linked to a defined product-related trigger or agreed unit-based mechanism.

03

Campaign-based mechanisms

A specific campaign, activation or communication program defines the applicable support logic.

04

Defined cleanup support

Support is allocated to agreed cleanup-related activities under a defined program framework.

05

Individual partner programs

Custom models combine commitments, activities and reporting according to the partnership.

Core principle

Support mechanisms vary by partnership, product and campaign. The applicable mechanism is defined for each program.

Measurement & documentation

HOW WE MEASURE AND DOCUMENT.

The exact documentation pathway depends on the program. Our general approach is to separate the agreed mechanism, the action itself, the recorded information and the resulting communication.

01

DEFINE

A mechanism, commitment, scope or calculation basis is agreed.

02

ACT

The relevant cleanup, collection or project activity is carried out.

03

DOCUMENT

Relevant project, activity or collection information is recorded.

04

REPORT

Results are consolidated and communicated according to the program.

A clear distinction

DOCUMENTATION IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY VERIFICATION.

We distinguish between internally recorded information, partner-provided data, documented project outcomes and independent external verification.

Where external verification applies, it should be identified specifically. Documentation should not be described as independent verification unless it actually is.

Materials transparency

ABOUT MBRC OCEANPLASTIC AND OCEANYARN.

Material communication should be specific. We therefore distinguish material characteristics from cleanup support, project commitments and impact outcomes.

01

Recycled material platform

MBRC OCEANPLASTIC

A mechanically recycled plastic material pathway using defined recovered plastic streams. Exact polymer type, source, recycled content and processing route can vary by application.

Application-specific data matters.
02

Recycled yarn pathway

MBRC OCEANYARN

A recycled yarn pathway based on MBRC OCEANPLASTIC material streams for suitable textile applications. Product-specific composition and processing information should be confirmed for the respective application.

Specifications depend on the application.

Responsible communication

WE AIM TO COMMUNICATE IMPACT RESPONSIBLY.

Environmental claims should be specific, understandable and linked to the applicable mechanism. We therefore distinguish between material claims, cleanup support, project commitments and documented outcomes.

01

A material claim describes the material.

It does not by itself describe cleanup impact.

02

A support claim describes an agreed mechanism.

It should not be presented as direct removal unless the underlying outcome supports that claim.

03

A commitment describes what is agreed.

It is not the same as a documented or independently verified outcome.

Our communication approach

SPECIFIC OVER VAGUE. TRACEABLE OVER IMPLIED.

We communicate

DEFINED INFORMATION

  • Defined support mechanisms
  • Documented project data
  • Material specifications
  • Applicable calculation bases
  • Project-specific outcomes
  • Verification status where applicable

We aim to avoid

UNCLEAR IMPLICATIONS

  • Vague environmental promises
  • Unsupported equivalence claims
  • Unclear causality
  • One-size-fits-all impact statements
  • Material claims presented as impact claims
  • Verification language without applicable verification
